What do I do if my lights stop working?

If you feel that you need further advice or assistance please call us on 01283 732323 / 07798 575722.

If the fault is in only one room the first thing to do is check the bulb, make sure you switch off the circuit before you remove the bulb and replace it with a new one.
The florescent tube in florescent fittings will glow orange at each end if the "starter" has failed, or the tube will just keep flashing if the starter is fine but the tube has failed. Switch off the supply and then replace whichever part has worn out and then restore the supply.
This may in many cases rectify the fault, if not please read on.

If all the lights have stopped working or just a few lights within the installation have, then a fuse or circuit breaker may have gone. To reset a circuit breaker simply switch on the trip switch marked with the corresponding circuit in your consumer unit. If you have fuses then one of these may have blown. Remember to switch off the main switch on your fuse board before replacing any fuses.

Modern light bulbs can when they "blow" can make circuit breakers trip off, this is usually normal, if after turning the circuit back on you find a blown light bulb switch off the circuit again and replace it.

Has this rectified the fault?
